The Advance - Overview

Decrease Font SizeIncrease Font Size

The Advance is an accountable, designated giving arm of The United Methodist Church that ensures 100% of each gift reaches its intended mission or ministry. You decide which program or ministry to support through The Advance. The Advance is part of the General Board of Global Ministries, The United Methodist Church.

General Board of Global Ministries receives and processes your gifts, which are made available for disbursement and automatically wired to the project director or area financial person in the region once every month. The project receives 100 percent of your gift.

Online or telephone giving expedites the process and still enables your church and conference to receive Advance credit.

To ensure you receive Advancing Hope, please add Advance@gbgm-umc.org to your address book.

ADVOCATE OF THE MONTH - NOVEMBER

Nancy VandenBrink: Giving Gratitude for Missionaries

"Performing stitches on a dog and repairing a car with duct tape and caulk!" said Nancy VandenBrink, marveling at the diversity of work missionaries are doing in Haiti. Stephanie, a community developer, and Ashley Norton, mission coordinator, are new missionaries serving in Mizak, Haiti, with HAPI (Haitian Artisans for Peace International).

Nancy, the missions team chair at Westwood United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan, shares emails from Stephanie Norton with the church to encourage support for the Nortons, a married couple whose work is based in income-generating, health-based, and community education projects in rural Haiti.

"It's amazing that Stephanie is doing workshops--in which she is teaching people who would like to be teachers--on very basic skills like counting and how to write the alphabet and their names," said Nancy.

Stephanie and Ash were active members of Westwood UMC, especially in missions and social justice ministries, reported Nancy. "When they were selected to be Mission Interns, I was very excited for them and of course wanted to support 'two of our own'…. Their work in Haiti allows them to extend those passions and use the gifts and talents they have to make a lasting difference in the lives of the Haitians they serve."

Westwood United Methodist Church has committed to support Ashley and Stephanie Norton, each, for $500 through gifts to The Advance, a giving channel of The United Methodist Church.

In this season of Thanksgiving, consider showing your gratitude to missionaries like the Nortons, the way Nancy VandenBrink and Westwood UMC have.

Support Stephanie Norton, Advance #3021341.

Support Ashley Norton, Advance #3021340.

Devotional of the Month

Prayer Calendar

We all need prayers. We all share prayers through the Prayer Calendar. All of the missionaries and staff of the General Board of Global Ministries are included in this beautiful calendar, produced by United Methodist Women. While the work of Global Ministries and United Methodist Women may reside in different office spaces, the organizations are united in a deep, prayerful, historical, and mission-minded commitment to prayer for God's world.

The Prayer Calendar is the premium way to share in so many of the ministries that are part of the mission work of The United Methodist Church. Order this at the Mission Resource Center for United Methodist Women for $11.
