Recently, María Cleofé Sumire de Conde, congresswoman of the Republic of Perú, talked about politics and faith to a group of Latin American women scholars. Among the 21 women at the gathering, 19 received scholarships from the World Communion Scholarship/Leadership Development office of the General Board of Global Ministries.
The combination of the recession and an online application process dramatically increased the demand for United Methodist loans and scholarships this year, making contributions to three United Methodist churchwide Special Sundays with offerings critical.
“Christian mission,” affirms World Communion Scholar Jeanelle Ablola, “is to provide opportunities to struggle alongside one another . . . to bring together faith and action.”
