2010 World Communion Sunday Video Intro: Dr. Marke and Bishop Yambasu
The maternal and child mortality rate in Sierra Leone is among the highest in the world, but The United Methodist Church is doing something about it through the World Communion Scholars program. Two former World Communion Scholars—Dr. Dennis Marke and Bishop John K. Yambasu—integrate health care and ministry in this country recovering from years of civil war. Marke, a medical doctor who studied public health at Loma Linda (Calif.) University, is the chief medical officer of Sierra Leone’s Kissy United Methodist Hospital. As spiritual leader of the Sierra Leone Area, Bishop Yambasu shares his experience as a pastor, youth minister, missionary and Christian educator working with children. He is a graduate of Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta. Physical and spiritual healing ministries such as Marke’s and Bishop Yambasu’s are critical to the future of Sierra Leone, and you help through your gifts on World Communion Sunday.
