Thank You For Your Support!
Despite tough economic times, 2008 was a faithful year of giving. More than half of the 63 United Methodist annual conferences gave 100 percent to the Africa University Fund apportionment. The fund supports the university’s daily operational costs.

“Not only is Africa University a connectional responsibility of the Michigan Area; we also are obligated through the gospel to enhance God’s abundant life for all God’s children,” said Michigan Area Bishop Jonathan D. Keaton. “We gladly and freely give to support higher education for our partners in ministry.”
The Africa University Development Office and United Methodist Communications, both located in Nashville, Tenn., presented thank-you banners to the 32 conferences that paid 100percent apportionment: Alaska Missionary, Baltimore-Washington, Central Pennsylvania, Central Texas, Dakotas, Detroit, East Ohio, Eastern Pennsylvania, Greater New Jersey, Illinois Great Rivers, Iowa, Kansas West, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, New England, New York, North Carolina, North Central New York, North Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma Indian Missionary, Peninsula-Delaware, Red Bird Missionary, Rio Grande, South Carolina, Troy, West Michigan, West Ohio, West Virginia, Western New York and Wisconsin.
Mr. James Salley, associate vice chancellor for institutional advancement for Africa University, encouraged conference leaders to proudly display their banners at their respective annual conferences, which began May 1, 2009.
One goal of Africa University is to improve the quality of life for the people of Africa, and that is evident in the variety of educational disciplines offered. Post-graduate diploma and maters programs are also available through the Institute of Peace Leadership and Governance on the campus.
Daniel Mhone graduated in 1997 with a divinity degree and has served the residents of his home country, Malawi, through church planting and evangelism. “Africa University equipped me with leadership skills and style relevant to our very context,” Mhone said. “The church should support Africa University because the environment is conducive for preparing international figures and leaders. I would classify it as the Oxford of Africa.”
Indeed, the church supports Africa University, as the 2008 100-percent apportionment reveals. University associates encourage continued support with faith in God’s work through Africa University, hope in its students and graduates and love for humanity touched with the power that transforms lives!
