Their love for AU inspired them to leave a legacy in their honor.

Ron and Mary met at the University of Indianapolis (formerly Indiana Central College) and married on June 12, 1955. After Ron’s graduation from the School of Dentistry, the couple moved to Fort Knox, KY while Ron served in the US Army.  In 1959, they moved to New Albany, IN where Ron opened a dental practice, ultimately practicing dentistry there for over 40 years.

Ron and Mary worshipped at Silver Street United Methodist Church, serving in numerous capacities over the years. Mary served as children’s, youth, and adult choir director for a combined total of 33 years. Additionally, they served in various capacities at the district and annual conference levels of the denomination.

While living in New Albany, Ron and Mary were also involved in civic and community affairs. Ron was a 50-year member of the New Albany Kiwanis Club; he was a member of the American Dental Association and the Indiana Dental Society; and he served on the boards of trustees of the University of Evansville and the University of Indianapolis.  Mary served as a trustee of the United Methodist Children’s Home in Lebanon, IN for 18 years; she served on the New Albany Floyd County School Board for 8 years; and she served as president of the New Albany District United Methodist Women.

Ron and Mary moved to the Franklin United Methodist Community in 2010 and became very much involved in the life of the Community and Grace United Methodist Church.

Ron and Mary loved to travel, and it was a visit to Africa University that inspired their bequest to the university upon their death.

Mary joined the Church Triumphant on August 26, 2016, followed shortly thereafter by Ron on December 26, 2016.  They leave to cherish their memories 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
